Maharishi—Tributes

flowers

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s contribution to the promotion of Vedic Knowledge is unparalleled, and so it would be in the fitness of things to grant him state honours. . . . I have requested the President to accord a state funeral to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and I am hopeful that she would concede to this request.

—Ashok Singhal, President, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, India

(Maharishi was accorded a state funeral by the President of India. The Vedic Rites were conducted on a high plateau, on the grounds of a temple Maharishi had been in the process of building in homage to his Master, and overlooked the confluence of the Ganges in Allahabad. The Vedic Rites were presided over by the Shankaracharya of the North, Swami Vasudevananda Saraswati Maharaj. During the 21-gun military salute, the army held their rifles in a neutral position, in honour of Maharishi's life-long dedication to the creation of world peace. A helicopter showered thousands of rose petals on the site.)

While in Singapore I heard about the Mahasamadhi of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi-ji. I served as Director of Education (1996–2004) for a group of about 200 schools founded by him known as Maharshi Vidya Mandirs throughout India and heard him in video conferences held by him from time to time. I can only say that such great personalities come to this earth only once in centuries. Though he is primarily known for his Transcendental Meditation, his unique contribution in the field of Education through Maharshi Vidya Mandirs, Maharishi Institutes of Management, and Vedic Universities founded by him in India and abroad will always remain his living memorials. At present I can only say, JAI GURU DEV.

I did my 9th and 10th standard from Maharishi Vidhya Mandir, Lucknow. There I learnt the two most important things of life, Transcendental Meditation and discipline. Those two years were the best part of my life.

I had my schooling from Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Lucknow. His Holiness Pujya Maharishiji helped us a lot. He is always with us. His thoughts, his Shiksha [education] help the whole world always. Maharishiji says ‘SUDDH CHETNA KA KSHETRA VICHARON KE UTS MAY HOTA HAI’.

All good everywhere, non-good nowhere’—one of his devout acolytes used to tell me his message every now and then. A divine apostle of universal peace and harmony, love and understanding, virtue and righteousness has attained salvation.

He propagated the purest form of Vedas. He also provided a platform to all the scholars from over the world. Let his spirit guide his followers.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has dedicated himself to bridge the gap between the Eastern and Western ways of life. He has succeeded in removing mistrust between two cultures. The West and the East should survive in mutual trust. This is his legacy.

The universal power was (is) operating through the great soul known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Though the physical body is no more (physical body has its limitations), yet now that great power shall operate through the subtle body. Salute to his memory. Hari Om Tat Sat.

Maharishi’s DEPARTURE from the Planet Earth is a loss beyond mathematical calculation. His very being and existence was a proof of Divinity in the midst of a world dominated by greed and competition, speed and restlessness, pollution and ecological destruction, war and violence. Maharishi could envision well ahead of time that India alone has the blueprint for a healthy developing world based on Dharma, on ethical values, a world of freedom and universality.

Maharishi was a remarkable Guru who enlightened us with Transcendental Meditation. My Pranams at his holy lotus feet. May his Vision enlighten us throughout our lives.

Father of one of the most powerful yet easy to practise meditation techniques, most relevant in today’s technology-greed-driven-world. The world pays its homage to the great Seer.

Transcendental Meditation is the greatest contribution by His Holiness to mankind. He made the Bhagavad-Gita and the Rig-Veda into a small capsule known as Transcendental Meditation and gave it to the world at large. People irrespective of colour, caste, and creed enjoy the benefits of Transcendental Meditation, the Science of Creative Intelligence, and the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme. He remains forever in our life and as teachers we can never forget him. May his soul rest in peace. Whatever he has given to us will remain forever.

We have that
golden vision to see only right things,
because we know
the power of good
is greater than
any other power,
and we see the
power of good
rising in the world.
—Maharishi
